Class is (almost) in session!

As promised, the official treehouse class schedule for September and October is here (see below)!

Junk to Jewels with Rebecca Lee

Ever wonder what to do with all those beads and baubles from Grandma’s closet? Or do you need yet another reason to keep hoarding broken necklaces and single earrings? Well here’s your answer! In just one two hour session you’ll learn how to restring and clasp necklaces on silk and nylon thread. You’ll layer chains on a single clasp using jump rings to attach pendants and beads, as well as reinvent your earring collection with dangles and chains. All this will be done with cut apart treasures and loose bead findings. We’ll provide the know how and lotsa junk, feel free to bring your own baubles as well. Treehouse’s own talented Rebecca will show you how it’s done!

$40 plus additional $15 materials fee (includes tool kit and findings!)

Embroidery with Cal Patch

From denim jackets to tea towels to plush pillows, embroidery is a dreamy way to personalize your stuff. Learn 12 classic embroidery stitches and you'll be off and running to custom-decorate everything you own! At the first class you will make a basic stitch sampler, and in the second, the lovely cal patch will guide you through planning and starting your own personal project. All supplies included for first class; you'll bring your own treasure to customize for the second. Stitch away!

Bookmaking 101 (Accordion style) with Dominic Miller

Feeling bookish? Can’t quite figure out where to put those photos from your last trip to Bora Bora? Have a story to tell but no deserving place to put it? Well then grab a spot in this Art-meets-Craft two day workshop. In the first class, Dominic will lead you through the technical aspects of accordion bookmaking, discussing the approach, use of papers, archival materials, and general concepts behind the art form. You will complete one full artist book as well as be introduced to basic collage and backing methods. The second class will elaborate on collage techniques and let you follow your dream to a personalized book creation! This is a great opportunity for artists, illustrators, scrapbook enthusiasts, and anyone just interested in books. No technical experience necessary. Bookmark it.

Beginner Crochet with Cal Patch

If you drool over the lacy, openwork crochet sweaters, scarves and hats in all the mags, why not learn to make your own? It's not as hard as you might think. In three 2 hour classes Cal (of the amazing clothing label hodge podge), will help you master the basic stitches and you’ll learn how to combine them to make fancy patterns. By the end of the third class you'll have made your first hat! Bring a skein of a light or bright-colored smooth yarn, and a hook that's sized for the yarn (G/H for worsted, I/J for bulky), or get a starter kit at the Treehouse. Get hooked!

Beginner Knitting with Kim Hamlin

Curious about those knitting circles in bars and cafes around the city. Well it’s not a secret society, you too can join the club. Kim, from Keep it Moving Design fame, will help you learn the basic steps of casting on, knit stitch, and casting off…everything you need to start knitting up a storm. In just three 2 hour sessions, you’ll complete a fabulous scarf for you or someone you love. Whether you’re just starting out or you need a refresher on the basics, this is the course for you! Bring
size 8 or 10 needles and a skein of light or bright-colored wool yarn, or get a starter kit at the Treehouse. Cast on, cast off!

$120 : Wednesday 10/4, 10/11, and 10/18, 6:30 – 8:30pm

p.s. all of our classes take place in the treehouse, sometimes during business hours. because of this, the classes are kept small so that everyone can participate (usually 4-6 people per class).

I had so much fun at the Junk to Jewels class. Can't wait for the earrings class! Kudos to Rebecca for being a gracious host and a great teacher! I hope you guys post the pics on the blog soon. Everyone made supercute stuff.
