have we mentioned lately how much we love the uniform project?

View more news videos at: http://www.nbcnewyork.com/video.

"Thread NY caught up with Sheena Matheiken at the tail end of The Uniform Project, her year-long exercise in sustainability wherein she wore one dress for 365 days. We accompanied her to a couple of her favorite Williamsburg shopping haunts, where she hones her styling genius.

Since the first day of the first dress, we've been enthralled by Matheiken's journey, which she documented with a daily photograph of her outfit on The Uniform Project blog. The point of her yearlong exercise? To extol the value of reuse while raising funds for The Akanksha Foundation's efforts to school children in the slum's of her native India. Supporters could contribute cash to the cause or accessories to help her create new outfits.
The yearlong experiment has concluded, but Matheiken has only just begun to exercise her styling genius. We were thrilled to tag along on a mini-tour of two Williamsburg boutiques that supported her mission, Treehouse and Malin Landaeus, during which she showed us how to maximize what you've already got."

thank you so much to sheena matheiken of the uniform project and laurel pinson of NBC's thread ny! and supposedly this video is in taxi cabs all over ny right now! please let us know if u see it!

ABOUT DOTANK BROOKLYN

DoTank is a public vessel for interdisciplinary exploration, engagement and enhancement of our urban environment through means outside of the formal urban planning process. We make rapid and meaningful change by exploring and testing in our laboratory: Brooklyn, NY. By catalyzing local intellectual capital, we carry out interventions meant to improve the built environment. We connect, capture, build, design, and produce, and above all else, we Do.
http://dotankbrooklyn.org

ABOUT WINDOWFARMS
Windowfarms are vertical, hydroponic, modular, low-energy, high-yield edible window gardens built using low-impact or recycled local materials. They serve to empower city folks to grow food inside, year-round, and give ordinary people a way to contribute innovations toward more sustainable cities.

ABOUT SEED BOMBING
Seed bombing is where gardeners throw a "green grenade" into an empty lot filling in all those empty spots and roadside tracts of land with flowers and/or food. With this unauthorized act of participation guerrilla gardeners do the work that our cities should be paying to have done.

ABOUT VERMICULTURE
Worms!!!! And indoor composting.

Chica Vas is taking to the streets!!! grab a gong and bang along!

You may remember Chica Vas, the all-female percussion band that was created for Williamsburg Fashion Weekend many moons ago by treehouse, sodafine, and the then not-as-yet published tom tom magazine about female drummers. well, it's now bigger and even more fantastic, and tom tom magazine is about to release their THIRD issue, and we're taking to the streets to celebrate!

Celebrate with us as we parade through the street of LES with DRUMS! Pick up your free copy of Tom Tom Magazine Issue 3 (Cindy Blackman, Suphala, Zildjian, Laura Fares, MNDR, and more!) with live performances by: Chica Vas (all female drummer band) and visual artist Shantell Martin. www.tomtommag.com for more info, and  facebook invite here .

i have a feeling this is gonna be an event not to be missed!!!

if only i could (rooftop) farm!

this treehouse loves growing things everywhere, but especially up high...like on a rooftop!

feel the pull of spring and wanna dig in the dirt and grow things? me too! we should go to this, up up on the roof!
 description:
Got extra seeds? Come volunteer on the Rooftop, and pass along your extra seeds to fellow farmers. Join farmer Annie at 2pm, talking about soil, seeds, and how to grow your own food. All-day plant sale with transplants from McEnroe Organic Farm.
more info on eagle street rooftop farms here.

so climb up and get dirty already! ;)

a sweet mention in timeout ny! (i guess i'm a very cool granny ;) )

In: Best indie shops: Williamsburg, Brooklyn

sez:
Shopping at Siri Wilson’s shop is sort of like rummaging through a very cool granny’s attic: Antique scarves are piled in baskets, hand-stitched T-shirts sit on tables, craft supplies fill shelves and oodles of traffic-stopping baubles are clustered by the register. The shop showcases work by more than 60 designers, most of whom live and work in Brooklyn. Do-it-yourselfers also stop by to pick up hand-spun yarn and vintage craft kits; you can also browse the library of crafting books (sorry, no borrowing) and take a class in embroidery, crochet, jewelry making or decoupage. TONY deal: Mention TONY to receive 10 percent off any single item, or 15 percent off Wilson’s Sirius Lux jewelry line through Wednesday 21. 430 Graham Ave between Frost and Withers Sts (718-482-8733, treehousebrooklyn.com)

WILLIAMSBURG FASHION WEEKEND IS BACK! AT SECRET PROJECT ROBOT FRI&SAT SEPT18&19th!

Williamsburg Fashion Weekend, the original innovator of unorthodox fashion shows in Brooklyn, opens its sixth season on September 18th and 19th, at Secret Project Robot. The group of designers we assembled this year, with their finger on the pulse of our fashionable neighbourhood, will display the diverse elements that make up what Williamsburg fashion aesthetic is about, right now!

Two designers from two of our favorite Williamsburg boutiques, (Erin Weckerle for Sodafine), (Sirius* for Treehouse, Brooklyn) have teamed up to show off their latest hand-made, one of a kind creations. Their past shows have always blown us away, we can't wait to see what they will surprise us with this season!
