*Our friends The Tall Firs have asked to come play an intimate concert at treehouse THIS FRIDAY before they hit the road with The Neutral Milk Hotel. Here's the info in their words:

That's right folks, this is the shit. Your favorite maudlin duo crooning away at your favorite boutique and neighborhood hub, The Treehouse! They go together like vinegar and oil, like peanut butter and jelly, like some fries with that shake baby! Siri and Dave are gonna put together light fare (snacks) and cocktails (booze in the lower mid range) for your comfort and joy along with the loving atmosphere you expect from a good old fashioned Treehouse get together. Then later, the Tall Firs will play a set that will do it's damn-est not to harsh your mellow while still delivering their trademark emotional gravity. Then we'll drink more. Kids are welcome. 1) TONIGHT at 9pm at Williamsburg Hall of Music (N6th near Kent ave) our all-female percussion band (now over 20 members!!!!) CHICA VAS will be opening for Mirah and Thao......so stoked, and hope you can swing by!!!

2) THIS WEEKEND!: Sirius Lux for treehouse brooklyn is excited to be a part of Homemade:Brooklyn at the Metropolitan Green building June 25-27, 11am-late. There'll be a lot of awesome local designers, bands, crafts, haircuts and lots of surprises...and we'll be introducing our new line of zodiac jewels, Sirius* Starchild...;)

3)Sunday, July 18th: treehouse turns......4!!!!!!!....so we'll be having a superduper celebration...more details coming soon...it's gonna be major!!!

"Thread NY caught up with Sheena Matheiken at the tail end of The Uniform Project, her year-long exercise in sustainability wherein she wore one dress for 365 days. We accompanied her to a couple of her favorite Williamsburg shopping haunts, where she hones her styling genius.

Since the first day of the first dress, we've been enthralled by Matheiken's journey, which she documented with a daily photograph of her outfit on The Uniform Project blog. The point of her yearlong exercise? To extol the value of reuse while raising funds for The Akanksha Foundation's efforts to school children in the slum's of her native India. Supporters could contribute cash to the cause or accessories to help her create new outfits.

The yearlong experiment has concluded, but Matheiken has only just begun to exercise her styling genius. We were thrilled to tag along on a mini-tour of two Williamsburg boutiques that supported her mission, Treehouse and Malin Landaeus, during which she showed us how to maximize what you've already got."

Dude. we apologize. it's been a-WHILE! we've been out of it. we've been busy. we've been happy. we've had an amazing fashion show with our fab friends sodafine. we've been to nebraska. we've had a birthday. we've had allergies. we've been trying to catch up. we've been blessed to play with the greatest band in the world chica vas (record release party coming soon yes!). we've been trying to figure it all out. we've been making crochet chain necklaces for our new line of jewelry that we're totally stoked about, sirius lux. we've been planning craft classes. we've been meeting new designers that have joined the forces of treehouse (living jewelry, ruffeo n lil snotty, nancy kraskin jewelry and more...come check it out!). we've been kicking it with the lovely lasses of the uniform project. we've been trying to envision the perfect halloween costume (any ideas?). in other words, we haven't written you for a while, and we apologize. we miss you and hope you miss us back. we'll try and begin to catch up here.

Are you reeling like we are about the dearly departed king? must admit we're surprised how much it's effected us! if you'd like to come commisserate this weekend, we'll be at treehouse sat 1ish-8ish, sun noonish-7ish (btw, we just got in an ammmmazing collection of very vintage, very special summer dresses, perfect for moonwalkin' in and also those 4th festivities on the horizon... swing by after brunch and check 'em out!) then on Sunday we'll be stopping by our friends and favorite gallery CINDERS for there benefit auction (come! help out an amazing gallery and get a sweet piece of art! ) and THEN later sunday night (9pm on..) we'll be djing a dance party/ trunk show with our dear friend erin of the boutique SODAFINE at the newish joint BRUAR FALLS (brought to you by the peeps of cakeshop, in the old lucky cat space on grand st btw driggs n roebling). We'll be bringing along sweet tunes (vinyl, baby!) and a curated collection of vintage dresses and Sirius* jewels. and maybe a few more treats.... we shall see! Erin's gonna have some goodies too, and I'm sure I'm gonna covet at least a few! So come, dance, drink, and celebrate life with us. Renegade Craft Fair
was as always overwhelming and amazing, and it was so great to see
friends both old and new. Wish we would've had more time to explore

sugared with sweet tea, watermelon agua fresca (DIVINE!), and amazing

"Hello everyone.

As some of you may already know, my friend Elizabeth Eagle and I traveled to Kenya in March to teach art in Ndonyo Wasin Primary School. The experience was astounding, humbling, inspiring and often breath taking. We took great volumes of pictures hoping to capture what we saw/felt. There must be 30 gigs of images between us!

Elizabeth had the fantastic idea of putting together a benefit to support the children of Ndonyo Wasin as they look for ways to pay for their education. It takes $1000 to sponsor a child going into secondary school: that's room, board, books, classes the works! We're hoping we can raise enough cash to line the pockets of The Thorn Tree Project and Orphans of Rwanda. There will be handmade Samburu jewelry and Rwandan baskets. Photos priced to $ell. April 5th Junk to Jewels with Siri Wilson

Ever wonder what to do with all those beads and baubles from Grandma's
closet? Or do you need yet another reason to keep hoarding broken
necklaces and single earrings? Well here's your answer! In just
one two hour session you'll learn how to restring and clasp necklaces
and bracelets on silk and nylon thread. You'll learn the basics
of jump ring usage, as well as chain layering and clasping. All
this will be done with cut apart treasures and loose bead findings.

during business hours. because of this, the classes are kept small
so that everyone can participate (usually 4-6 people per class).

once a class fills up, we'll start a waiting list for the next

Open Space Committee. We're working on a guerrilla gardening
initiative this spring to get the Williamsburg/Greenpoint community
active in maintaining and improving our open spaces. Our first
workshop is this Saturday, March 21st, to be followed by several more!
The invite is listed below..

Also if you have any open space/gardening/sustainability projects

On Saturday NAG Open Space working group will hold a workshop to
create seed balls, a land reclamation strategy for derelict, neglected
and abandoned land. The strategy of combining Terra cotta clay and
hardy annual seeds into dried pellets has been used by groups for
hundreds of years, including the famous London guerrilla gardening
groups lead by Richard Reynolds, as well as natural farmer Masanobu
Fukuoka, and originated as a Native American farming strategy.

NAG (Neighbors Allied for Good Growth) will be constructing the seed
balls (containing wildflower seeds) on Saturday, March 21st, and
distributing them on Saturday, March 28th to be cast into abandoned
lots and neglected patches of land all over North Brooklyn at the
participants discretion.

I'm still putting it all together....gathering photos and videos from everyone who so kindly recorded this spectacular moment. And truly, I'm still in shock. Our fashion show was honestly above and beyond my crazy dreams! On Saturday, February 21st treehouse yet again joined forces with our sister shoppe Sodafine, and also with our dear friend Mindy of the up-n-coming Tom Tom Magazine(all about female drummers! rad!) and an amazing assortment of brooklyn female musicians, mainly drummers. One by one they casually climbed up the stage, stuck a pose, and then found their drum or instrument of choice and started playing. First, a simple funky but pure bass line from Bell of the band Taigaa!!!, dresses in a marching band inspired outfit by erin weckerle of sodafine, then Christina of Boyskout got on the drumkit, still keeping the beat simple and building suspense (outfit by erin weckerle of sodafine). Then Elizabeth Sun of Gogol Bordello sauntered onto the stage wearing Sirius for treehouse and a gorgeous felt flower hat by Ellen of eecouture rocking a triangle. The musical ladies kept filing out one after another, and the sound kept building until 9 ladies were hard-core rocking onstage, Katie Eastburn of Katie Eastburn and Young People in Sodafine and ruling the tambourine, Jee of Tiaggaa in Sodafine, Dreiky of Crash Worship and 88Boredoms (and 5 months pregnant! Congrats!) in Sirius, Fonlin of Dragons of Zynth in Sirius, Shannon of !!! and many other musical ventures ruling it in Sirius, Mindy of Tiagaa! and Tom Tom Magazine in Sirius and rocking the toms and the whistle.....and the crowd was a-hollering and dancing along with the beat. Just when no one thought it could get any more powerful, Suzanne of Lone Wolf and Cub jumped up on a trapeze, performed many a feat while keeping the beat, and then hung from her knees and grabbed some sticks and threw down some major beats on a big drum. The crowd went nuts, and we couldn't stop glowing. Or celebrating until the wee hours of the night. Oh, and then following the show, two of our fav bands performed.... Tall Firs, and.....Celebration. We can't believe it's already this weekend! Aaaack! treehouse has again been invited to team up with the amazing shop sodafine to take part in Williamsburg Fashion Weekend (Feb. 20&21st...we're scheduled to be a part of Sat Feb.21st...this time at glasslands!....around 9ish) we're cooking up a show of rhythm and magic not to be missed...(a little hint... our models are all fierce female brooklyn musicians,that we've borrowed from some of our absolutely favorite bands!) and after our show, two absolutely mind-blowingly great bands, Tall Firs and Celebration are rockin' the house. Soooooo excited! Seriously. Hope you'll come and share this amazing experience with us!

Embroider Me Crazy!

This Sunday Dec. 7th, treehouse was honored to host another great embroidery class taught by the lovely Cal Patch. The students snacked on cookies and green tea, while learning the many stitches one can use in the wondrous world of embroidery. Can't wait to see what kind of embroidered treats they'll come up with now that the knowledge is theirs....
